SEE, IT CAN BE BETTER...

Mother's Day 2008, was a great one here in my house. E, along with her dog Manny Ramirez (hey, she's a big Sox fan!) came home Saturday nite, and after the long week I had had, it was nice to just sit and have a glass of wine with her, and catch up. I slept very soundly, and woke up to sunshine and warm temperatures! Cap, JR and I were out the door by 9, for Sunday School as usual, and LTD & E met us at church for 10:30 service. The previous day,l while driving home from the Cape Animal Hospital, I saw a KFC store and mentioned it had been ages since I had chicken from the Colonel, so Cap asked if I would like THAT for lunch, rather than his grilling something when we got home from church, and I jumped at the chance for KFC and that is what we did. He took JR there right after church, which gave me a chance to go home, change, and then sit out on the deck until they returned. Lunch was great, and was followed by some gifts, and even a few pictures with the kids.

and shortly thereafter, E, who doesn't get to see JR much, took him out back to play. First stop was the trampoline:

Followed quickly by the swings:

and then the teeter-totter:

As you can see, the teeter-totter posed some difficulties since she weighs a bit more than him, but they finally got their timing down, and JR had lots of fun trying to give her "big bounces" like she gave him, each time it was her turn to push off. He never did achieve the goal, but had fun trying!

Finally, they played frisbee with Manny for awhile, and since the dog turned out to be quite good at it and according to JR, was "hogging" the frisbee, he found the only way to beat him to it was to stand on the trampoline, out of the dog's reach!

All this backyard fun gave me the chance to do two things I enjoy, taking pictures (with my brand new Fuji Finepix 51000 digital zoom camera, and then some reading out on deck. Since rain is forecast for most of the upcoming week, we were glad to have this day to enjoy the warm weather and bright skies, and took full advantage. Around 5 we decided it would be a good opportunity to get the vegetable seeds and plants out, since the forecasted rain is PERFECT for getting them off to a good start, and after E left to go home, JR, Cap & I spent a few leisurely hours planting onions, peppers, cukes, bush & pole beans, carrots, spaghetti, green &: summer squash & melons (JR insisted we grow a fruit!). Tomorrow we'll hopefully put the few remaining plants in, which include pumpkin, watermelon, hot peppers and potatoes. By then it was getting dark, and time for dinner (leftover KFC), showers, and the season finale of SURVIVOR. Except for not having ALL my kids home, or spending time with MY mom, I truly couldn't ask for a better Mother's Day. I am reminded how lucky I am to have some great kids, and also, an awesome husband! Thanks, guys!
