Our church recently began a new program called Truth 4 Kids, as part of their Wednesday nite program. JR is thrilled, I think because it is referred to as a "club". Each time I remind him it's Wednesday and "Club" nite, he is all excited. The last two weeks they have been working on their "entrance exam" which requires them to recite the answers to four bible questions. Even though he is the youngest in the class (5, 6 7 & 8 year olds) he had no problem memorizing the first three. The last one however gave him problems with. For one it is much longer, and then we lost the paper for three days! The kids are given an opportunity each week to recite the answers and given stars each time they do. Their goal is reciting all 4 in a row. If they do, they earn their Adventure book. This is "HUGE" to a 5 year old! Well, I knew it was doubtful that he'd earn his book this week since he was really, really, shaky on the fourth answer, and I kept telling him he would probably need to try again next week. To my surprise, he answered all the questions and got his book. At the end of the program the director had each child stand up while she announced what they achieved, and gave them certificates for their hard work. I cannot tell you how very proud he was of himself!
As soon as he heard "JR" he was standing, head high, beaming. He truly was proud of his accomplishment! Luckily, I was there to see him in all his glory because the director had asked me to help out since one of the regular teachers was sick. I'm really proud of everything he has accomplished and not just in this respect. He is so curious. inquisitive, and full of wonder that each day really is a new adventure!
While I didn't have my camera with me at Church, he was more than willing to pose for me with his book, once we got home:
