I think my poor child is a bit confused over the 10 commandments. Of course I don't blame him - I mean he has absolutely no idea what things like "covet", "adultery" or "bearing false witness" mean. But, he loves learning all about it, and tries really, really hard.
Hoping to help him out with understanding exactly what the Commandments are, we picked up a kids book of the commandments recently, which is perfect for his age group. You know, short, simple, to the point, and no big confusing words. Last week Cap was reading to him before bed as he normally does, and one of the books was this new one. I had already read it to him a few times, including once earlier in the day at his request, so I wasn't surprised when he picked this one out, again.
Okay, so Cap reads the book to him from beginning to end, and JR listens very intently. Then as Cap goes to close the book and tuck him in, JR says to him "but Poppa, there are 11 commandments".
Confused, Cap asks him to explain and quite solemnly, he complies:
"Number 11 - Don't "toot" at the table".
Well I think Cap and I both laughed for a good 5 minutes before we composed ourselves enough to explain that tooting at the table wasn't a commandment, but a rule - one of our house rules.
Yep, kids do say the darnedest things...
P.S. JR has his cousin CMO to thank for the term "tooting". We always called it "passing gas" but Reia set him straight on the subject when we visited them back in January, and since then, TOOT is the word in our house. Of course when Reia says it, it comes out more like "Taout"...gotta love her drawl!

THis is so funny - thanks for posting this - I had a hard day, and really needed to laugh...and giggling over a toot was just what I needed :)
My pleasure! Though at the time I wasn't sure if I should be mortified, or just go with it...going with it seemed like the thing to do since kids truly are so innocent!
So glad Reia has been such an impactful resource for her cousin.
Are you kiddin' Fawn - If Kai or Reia said it - it IS so - according to Skip :)
