Can somebody explain this to me?

How many toothbrushes would you expect to find in a bathroom shared by 3 people? 3 right? Not my bathroom - open the drawer where they are kept, and this is what you find:

The three battery operated brushes belong to the three people in question, so what are all these strays doing here? Do they sneak in at night while we're sleeping? Do they multiply? Do strange people break into our house when we're not home and leave them here? Does the dog invite his friends over when we're not around, and they leave them here? Is it a conspiracy and if so, who are the conspiring parties, and why? For the life of me I can't figure out - and the scary part is, this is no the first time I've cleaned out the drawer and discarded all but our three brushes, only to find more vagrants within a few months.

Well, I'm sure its not likely that I will find an answer to this puzzling question, but I suppose in the big scheme of things it all balances out. You see, I acquire toothbrushes just as quickly as I lose socks...

What multiplies or disappears inexplicably in YOUR house?
