It's over!

I didn't think I'd be saying this, but, I'm sad it Vacation Bible School is done! At the same time, I'll admit, I'm relieved. We had SO much fun, and the kids learned SO much, but, it's been hectic. Today my little guys were dressed as dinosaurs, and they were SO cute! Cap & I were totally up in the air about their costumes until the UPS guy came to visit. No, he didn't bring us costumes or give us any ideas about how to make costumes, but he brought something better. A big box containing Dinosaur Tails. Well, not really. He brought us a box with items we ordered for the boat, but inside the box was a very long, brown packing "thing". Sorta kinda like a 8 feet of brown bag scrunched together. We both looked at it and at the same time said "Dinosaur Tail". Cap cut it in half, glued cardboard spikes, airbrushed one blue to match Drew's blue dino costume (a fleece gap hoodie that I sewed a tan "belly" on, blue sweat pants, blue gloves and his blue clogs. JR's was the same, but tan, but no gloves or clogs. For JR's feet we painted two juicy juice boxes tan, and inserted white cardboard toenails on the front. We then slit holes in the top for his feet! (Since Drew had a problem trying with coordination - you know minor things like walking & seeing at the same time - we chose to to make the opening in the mouth a bit bigger and decided his shoes would be much safer than putting boxes on his feet. We did gave him the blue gloves to add a little extra to his costume!) All that was the easy part. For masks we two boxes, cut, pasted, glued, & stapled them to look like dinosaur heads, added some white cardboard teeth. One was painted blue, the other tan. Cap attached the spiky tails to the back of their boxed heads, and magically, two dinosaurs appeared! Slightly different, but great looking dinos. They were happy, we were relieved. Not only because we were done, but because we now have Halloween taken care of too! The pictures here were taken when we got back home - AFTER Drew left his blue hoodie with the tan pouch at church - so we threw another blue sweatshirt on him - not a great substitute, but you get the idea...

Tan Dino JR...
and Drew in blue...

The final day of VBS was busy and fun. I am amazed at how much they have learned about God & the Bible this week. Not to mention the fun they had and the memories they will take away with them. As for contest winners - Tessa did win for the younger group today! JR and I both were voting for her! JR took second prize, and was happy for both he and Tessa. Because his team, the Raptors, had the most cumulative points this past week, they got to pick two candies from the stash. I was very proud of the fact that he took two lollipops - one for him, one for Drew! Make no mistake - My child can be cranky, fresh & down right disobedient, but I am thankful, because those moments are far, far, fewer than the times he makes me proud. The times he gives me spontaneous hugs, does what we ask, tries to be helpful, and is thoughtful - like he was with the candy, and voted for his friend Tessa because he knew she had not yet won a prize this week!

Now that we're back home, and the weeks worth of papers, crafts, and costumes are all safely stored away, I am sitting down with a very tall iced coffee and putting my feet up. For about 5 minutes that is - the dinosaurs are roaring for lunch, and we gotta get packing for the weekend at the boat! I don't need to tell all the mothers other there that motherhood and resting are not synonymous, but one can hope!

Those really really are impressive. There has to be some sort of costume contest online in the fall you could enter those pics in. I know last year I was all of the web in search of costume ideas.
