July 4th has special significance for our family. Not only is it day we commemorate this country's adoption of the Declaration of Independence, it is the birthday of my oldest son, LTD. Also, it is a day that reminds us that adding JR to our family afforded him countless opportunities he likely never would have had otherwise. And as usual, with very little planning or fanfare, but with lots of food, family and friends, we spent the long weekend living life and giving thanks for all we have been blessed with. I couldn't find a better way to express my thoughts than with this video. While I originally was just looking for a "patriotic" song to use, but found this one to be fitting for lots of reasons...

The kids loved seeing that video. KAO has a friend over. The friend said "who's that?" KAO said "that's JR, he's our cousin and he owns boats!"
Yeah, Skip THINKS they are his. But I gotta say, he is so eagerly learning to navigate, the terminology, tying boat knots, etc. that I do see boats in his future - on his dime that is...
