A day in the life of two typical 5 year olds...

I marvel at the energy little boys have at this age while at he same time wonder why it is they can be in constant motion for hours on end, while I need a nap each day by noon. I thought it would be fun to chronicle a day in the life of JR and his Cousin Drew (Drew is actually my grandson, but just a month younger than JR, thus to simplify, we call them cousins).

So if you have the energy follow along (and keep up if you can) as this day unfolds...

6:01 Wide Awake >sigh< >yawn< Mommy threatens revoking all fun privilege's for the next year - boys return to sleep.

7:00 a.m. The EXACT time JR is allowed to come out of his room in he a.m. - or as he says "Seven-Zero-Zero" note they're still in jammies, but got their shades...

7:45 a.m. Watering the Deck Plants - Uh, boys, the plants are behind you...

8:00 a.m. Breakfast Time. JR's weekly allowance of "crap" cereal - Fruit Loops or as he says "Floop Loops" .

8:30 Trampoline Time Gotta work off the buzz from the Floop Loops.

9:05 a.m. Down from the sugar high, it's Sandbox Time!

9:25 Time out: Sentence 5.5 minutes each. Offense: Coating the slide with sand (How did that not hurt - sliding on sand?)

10:10 With renewed Energy after freeze pops (one each - much to their dismay)they're back to fast forward... Racing down the hill in the back yard.

10:25 a.m. Swinging up to the clouds (or so they said...)

10:35 Fruit Snacks for two self-proclaimed "starving" boys.

11:00 am. Sweaty faced boys reluctantly agreed to stay indoors for a bit. Mommy agrees to let them watch Word World on PBS.

11:15 a.m. Apparently renewed after 15 minutes, Drew heads downstairs to the office/playroom to Keep Poppy company, and to "build stuff". JR, the cartoon addict, takes the TV time while it's being offered and continues to watch.

11:23 a.m. Drew decides building alone is no fun (nor is Poppy at the moment as he is knee deep in Monster.com & resumes) so he returns to vegetate with JR and once again the two are engrossed in building words that rhyme with "map". Oooh-Oooh! Mommy raises her hand first and chimes in with "nap". Boys ignore her. Hey, it was worth a try.

11:45 a.m. Taking pictures of each other with JR's Camera while Mommy gets lunch; giving new meaning to up close & personal...

11:50 Gourmet lunch by Mommy - well actually its ABC's & 123's...too hot to cook.

11:53 Jr. & Drew decide to find their names in their plates - unsure of a letter, JR and Drew take a closer look.

11:53:04 Jr. destroys the evidence.

12:33 p.m. Boys are instructed to wait on the deck while Mommy cleans up and gets ready to watch them outside in the pool.

12:34 Time-Out. The Offense(s) Leaving the deck; Dumping buckets of sand onto the grass...in multiple locations.

Sentence: Loss of pool time while we pick up the sand (which is basically an exercise in futility, but...) and closure of the sandbox 'til further notice.

12:55 Pool Time!

2:00 Two water-logged and now cranky boys change, have some cookies & milk and then make their ways down the hall for naps, not happily I might add.

2:10 p.m. One down, one to go... 3:23 p.m. TKO for #23:24 NAP TIME FOR MOMMY!

4:10 Mommy gets up from her nap followed shortly thereafter by the boys. With all the rest, they are more than ready for the trampoline which is perfect because Mommy can see & hear them through the kitchen window while she gets dinner ready.

5:15 p.m. Screaming Rocket Balloons off the deck (Thank you Auntie Bambi for sending them!)

6:15 p.m. A few more Rockets while Mommy cleans up after dinner. This time the big kid joined them.

6:30 Faces scrubbed, stomachs full and strapped into their car seats, we're on our way to Bible Club.7:00 Having spent the past 15 minutes running around the Church gym, the younger kids gathered for opening discussions. After such long naps earlier in the day it was difficult for them to sit in their seats, but they managed somehow!

7:05 Practicing the new song the Director has been working on with the younger kids.

7:20 JR gets ready to recite his verses. He did great, and is the most advanced in his group despite being the youngest! Since Drew was a guest, he got to color!

7:40 Free Play at Bible Club - Building with legos and lincoln logs.

8:05 p.m. While waiting for Poppa to finish his meeting, the boys decide to play tag in the church meeting room.

8:35 p.m. Frosty Ice Cream Treats from Wendys as a reward for JR's earning two more badges.

8:50 With teeth brushed and room picked up, the boys get into vehicle play while waiting to have their books read to them.

9:05 p.m. Book Time with Poppa. Touch choices as usual, but tonite they chose Maisy & Diego books.

9:15 p.m. Prayers before bed. Tonite JR thanked God for helping him memorize his verses and getting two new patches for his "stash"...still can't remember its a "sash" not a "stash".

10:11 After 15 minutes of horseplay - Mommy began the parental warnings, threats, and finally separation of the boys in an attempt to get them to sleep.

10:31 BINGO! Boys asleep. (We're making slight progress. Last night it was 11 before they gave in to fatigue and closed their little eyes (and mouths) for the night - a full 2 hours past Skip's summer bedtime! Too long of a day for Mommy to risk waking them with the flash of the camera to provide proof, so y'all will have to trust me ont his one! Mommy will be right behind just as soon as she straightens up a bit. Let's see, she's got about 7.5 hours of sleep before the circus starts up again!
