Today was JR's first day of kindergarten, and of course, it was my first day teaching him! He was very excited about starting school, and even counted down the days. Last night however, when he woke up at 4:00 crying, saying only that he had a bad dream, I thought for sure it had to do with the fact he wasn't going to his old school anymore, but this morning he was happy as a clam. I dragged myself out of bed this morning, I got up early, and was very eager to get started! We even managed to begin on time (8:30) but did run a little late since we were having so much fun. I quickly got over my own nervousness, and he just went from one activity to the next with ease & anticipation. We are learning about Creation of the Earth in Bible class, which ties in with our "It's a big World" history lessons, and JR liked the inflatable earth beach ball we had purchased in Russia during one of our trips. It was the focal point of our lessons today! We still have to work out some kinks, and get into a routine. As much as I can plan, sometimes, you need to go through the day and figure out what works best and in which order. All in all though, it was better than I anticipated. As for JR - when I asked him how his first day as a Kindergartener went, he said it was the best school day ever! You just can''t ask for more!
Despite the fact we weren't leaving the house, we still posed for pictures, and took a few during class. I suppose if someone looked at them, they'd never know it was his first day of homeschooling - until they looked at his feet! Hopefully soon I'll get a web page up and running to document our year - of course that'll have to wait til I finish preparing the rest of the weeks lessons plans.

Oh yeah, that dream he had last night - it had nothing to do with school. Seems he was dreaming he was being chased by the hot tub, and couldn't get away....go figure!

It looks like y'all had a great day! Good for you, even with 2 degrees in Education, I couldn't homeschool. Way to go...to both the student and the teacher!
Wow, your home class room looks just like an away class room.
Great job Mom.
You could get a few more students and start charging. Really, I think some Moms do that.
I'm like the first lady. I have two degrees in education and couldn't homeschool and do it right. It really depends on the kid and how consistent and responsible the parent is. My kid isn't one that would cooperate. AND, I'm too ADHD to teach at home. Now, put me in an actual classroom full of kids and I ROCK! ;)
Fawn, actually I believe that is against the law... to homeschool someone else's kids. (At least in OK.) I checked into it once before. I may be wrong but the lady I talked to said it was.
Your classroom looks awesome. You are so prepared and your enthusiasm is wonderful! He really will have an awesome year. :)
He looks so cute in his school pictures!
