Whoa....

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God —John 1:12

My sweet 5.5 year old child amazes me on a daily bases. He very often leaves me speechless (though the reasons aren't always cause to brag.) He regularly makes me proud. On occassion he causes me to stand in awe.  He's been known to make me cry - mostly for joy, occasionally out of frustration.  Tonight he did all of the above.

The last three nights we've been going to our church to hear Evangelistic Minister Barry Webb. If any of you have heard him, I don't have to tell you how amazing he is. Each night we begin the meetings in the church, and the children grade 2 & under are dismissed with his wife Cheryl, for a junior meeting.  Since Cap & I had the opportunity to speak with Cheryl last night during fellowship, we knew she had taught the children about what it means to be saved. Tonight he left his meeting with a picture of Noah, so we kinda guessed what subject they discussed. Since we got home after 10 last night, we didn't hang around tonite and just left right after the meeting.

So - we left church and headed home. We had just left the parking lot when I started to ask JR what he had been learning in Mrs. Webb's class. I asked him if had talked about Noah tonite and he simply said yes. Then I asked him if she had spoken to them last night about what it means to be saved and he said yes again. I figured the discussion was over, and that he was tired. He never feels like discussing anything even remotely "intellectual" at night, and since it was past 9:00, I was ready to just change the subject. He however wasn't. He quickly came back with "and I am saved now".  Heads turned (mine & Caps) and I then asked him if this happened last night during Mrs. Webb's class. "Nope" he said." It happened last night in bed".  he added.

Cap and I exchanged confused looks, then I asked him exactly what he meant. He  proceeded to tell me that while he was in bed, before he went to sleep, he prayed to God and asked him to be his Savior. And if that wasn't enough, he told us that after he prayed this, God spoke to him and said he would"...

It took me at least 30 minutes to make my mouth work. I thought about what he had just said and decided that in his heart, he, at 5.5, had accepted God as his personal Savoir. Whether he totally understands I don't know, but clearly he took the words of Cheryl to heart and did what all of us are called to do. Just about the time my mouth started working again he asked me if I was happy that he was saved.  Happy?  Happy doesn't come close to what I'm feeling JR....

No problem Kathy. I am still amazed today that he understood the whole concept. In fact this morning I asked him to explain to me what being saved meant and he told me "it means God will help me now and when I die, I will go to Heaven!"... As my pastor always say, "Praise the Lord"
